How to Get the Most Out of MatchWatch in Five Minutes

There are features sitting one tap away that will completely change how fast you find something to watch. Here's the full rundown.

Most people download MatchWatch, swipe a few times, and think that's the whole app. It's not.

There are features sitting one tap away that will completely change how fast you find something to watch. Here's the full rundown.

Start With Your Mood, Not the Deck

Before you start swiping, set your mood. MatchWatch lets you filter by what you're actually feeling tonight: Action, Comedy, Romance, Thriller, Family, Sci-Fi, Documentary.

This is the single biggest time-saver in the app.

Without a mood filter, you're swiping through everything. With one, your deck shrinks to exactly what fits tonight's energy. Your matches become more relevant, and you find common ground faster.

Invite Your Partner Before You Start Swiping

This one sounds obvious, but a lot of people swipe alone first and then invite their partner. Don't. The matching only works when you're both swiping the same deck at the same time, or close to it. Send the invite link first, wait for them to join the group, then start swiping together.

The link takes about ten seconds to set up and works on any device, no account required from the person you're inviting.

Don't Overthink the Swipe

The most common mistake: treating every swipe like a binding contract. Swipe right on anything you'd genuinely watch tonight, even if it's not your first pick, even if you've seen it, even if you're only 60% feeling it. The more generously you swipe, the more matches you generate, and the more options you both have to choose from.

Left is a hard no. Right is an open yes. That's all it is.

Use Undo More Than You Think

The undo button exists for a reason. Swiped left too fast on something? Hit undo immediately and it comes back. Alternatively, everything you've passed lives in your Passed list. Browse it any time to rescue a title you dismissed in a different mood.

Friday night you might pass on a documentary. Sunday morning it might be exactly right.

Save the Pick For Me Button for the Right Moment

Pick For Me is not a first resort. It's a closer. Build up a few matches first, then when you're genuinely stuck between good options, hit the roulette. It spins through your matched list and lands on one, complete with streaming link, trailer, and full details.

The sweet spot is using it when you have three to five matches and none feels obviously right for tonight specifically. That's when the roulette removes the friction without removing the choice.

Check Streaming Availability Before You Commit

Every title in MatchWatch shows which platforms carry it. Before you press play, confirm your household actually has that service. MatchWatch supports Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, and more, and the availability updates regularly. No more clicking through to a platform and discovering you need to subscribe.

Share Your Match With the Room

Once you land on something, use the suggest button to send it directly to a group chat, family message thread, or the TV screen. Useful for households with more than two people where everyone needs to know what's playing tonight.

Those five minutes of setup pay for themselves every single Friday night.
