Getting started

Add MatchWatch to your home screen
On iPhone: tap the Share button in Safari, then tap “Add to Home Screen”. On Android: tap the menu and select “Add to Home Screen” or “Install App”. MatchWatch works like a native app once installed.

Sign in with Google
Tap Get Started and sign in with your Google account. This is how MatchWatch knows who you are and keeps your swipes saved.

Create or join a group
One person creates the group and shares the invite code with their partner. The other person enters the code to join. You only need to do this once — your group stays linked forever.
Tip: The person who creates the group gets an invite code in their Profile screen. Share it via message, WhatsApp, whatever works.

Swiping & matching

Swipe right to like, left to pass
Browse the Discover deck and swipe right on anything you'd watch, lefton anything you wouldn't. Your partner does the same independently — you don't see each other's choices until you match.

When you both swipe right — it's a match
The moment you both like the same title it appears in your Matcheslist. No more “I don't mind, what do you want to watch?” — the app has already found something you both want.

Changed your mind? Hit Undo
The Undobutton appears at the bottom of the screen straight after a swipe. Tap it to bring the card back. You can also find everything you've passed on in the Passed tab of your Watchlist.

Watch the trailer before you decide
Tap any card to expand it. If there's a trailer available you'll see a Watch Trailer button. The trailer plays right inside MatchWatch — no need to open YouTube.

For You & mood

The For You deck gets smarter over time
Tap For Youat the top of the Discover screen. This deck is built from your right swipes — MatchWatch finds similar titles you haven't seen yet. The more you swipe, the better it gets.

Set the mood to filter your deck
Tap the Moodtab at the bottom. Pick a vibe — Date Night, Action, Scary, Feel Good, Thriller, and more. Your deck filters to match. Great for when you know the kind of thing you're after but not the specific title.

Picking tonight's watch

Can't decide? Let MatchWatch pick
In your Matches list tap Pick For Tonight. MatchWatch spins through your matched titles and lands on one. You get the full details, trailer, and streaming info — then just press play.

Suggest something to your partner
Found something you think they'll love? Open the title details and tap Suggest. Your partner gets a notification and the title jumps to the top of their deck. No pressure — they can still swipe left.

Know where to watch it
Every title shows which streaming services it's on right now. No more opening five apps trying to find where something lives — it's all on the card.

Track what you've watched
In your Watchlist or Matches, tap any title to open its details. Use the To Watch / Watching / Watchedbuttons at the bottom to track where you're up to. Watched titles stay in your history.

Common questions
Do we have to be on the app at the same time?
No. You each swipe whenever you feel like it. Matches happen automatically when both of you have swiped right on the same title — even if it's days apart.
Can my partner see what I've swiped on?
No. Your swipes are private until you both match on the same title. That's what makes it fun — no influencing each other.
What if I accidentally swipe the wrong way?
Tap Undo immediately after the swipe. Or find the title in your Passed list (Watchlist → Passed tab) and add it to your watchlist from there.
The streaming service shown isn't available in New Zealand
MatchWatch shows global streaming availability. Some services listed may be US or UK only. The ones you'll see most often for NZ are Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Neon, and Paramount+.
Can I use MatchWatch without installing it?
Yes — just go to app.matchwatch.tv in your browser. But installing it to your home screen gives you the full app experience including notifications when you get a match or suggestion.
How do I nudge my partner to use the app?
Go to your Profile and tap Nudge next to their name. They'll get a notification reminding them to open MatchWatch and start swiping.
