Terms of Use
The practical rules for accounts, groups, saved titles, email and using MatchWatch fairly.
Effective date: 16 July 2026.
MatchWatch should be easier to use than choosing what to watch. These terms explain the few rules that keep it useful, safe and fair.
Your agreement with MatchWatch
These Terms of Use apply when you use the MatchWatch website, web app, iOS app, Android app, emails and related services. MatchWatch is operated by Foundry Studio Limited in New Zealand.
By creating an account or using MatchWatch, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use MatchWatch.
A free way to agree what to watch
MatchWatch helps couples, families, flatmates and other households decide what to watch. People swipe privately on movies and TV shows, MatchWatch finds the overlap, and the app shows where a matched title may be available to stream in the selected region.
MatchWatch is free. We do not offer a paid tier, charge subscription fees or place advertising in the service. You remain responsible for any subscription or purchase fees charged by streaming providers.
MatchWatch is a discovery and decision tool. It is not a streaming service and does not host, transmit or synchronise movies or TV shows.
You must be at least 13
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If the law where you live requires a parent or guardian to agree to online-service terms for someone your age, you must have that permission before using MatchWatch.
MatchWatch is not directed to children under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we may suspend the account and remove the associated personal information. A parent or guardian can contact us through the contact page.
Email, Apple and Google sign-in
You may create or access an account using email, Sign in with Apple or Google login. You must provide accurate information and keep access to your email address and login provider secure.
You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless it results from a failure by MatchWatch to use reasonable security measures. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account.
Apple and Google provide their own login services under their own terms. MatchWatch does not receive or store your Apple or Google password.
Groups, swipes, matches and watchlists
You can join groups, invite people you know, swipe on titles and save titles to a personal watchlist. Your individual swipe choice is not shown to the group unless it contributes to a match or another app feature clearly tells you it will be shared.
Only invite people you are allowed to contact. Group names, display names and other text you submit must not be unlawful, threatening, abusive, discriminatory, misleading or invasive of another person's privacy.
Matches and recommendations are suggestions, not guarantees. You decide what to watch and which provider to use.
Do not misuse MatchWatch
You must not:
- use MatchWatch for unlawful, fraudulent or harmful activity;
- harass, threaten, impersonate or deliberately mislead another person;
- probe, bypass or interfere with security, access controls or rate limits;
- upload malware or use automated tools that place unreasonable load on the service;
- scrape or copy the service, catalogue or data at scale without permission;
- reverse engineer MatchWatch except where applicable law expressly allows it;
- use another person's account or personal information without permission.
We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect people, investigate misuse, comply with law or keep the service working.
Service email and the newsletter
Account and service messages
We may send messages needed to run the service, including account confirmation, security, group activity, deletion confirmation, important service changes and legal notices. These messages are not marketing.
Newsletter and other optional email
We send the newsletter or promotional email only where you have signed up or another lawful basis applies. You can unsubscribe using the link in the email. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop essential account or service messages.
Availability can change
Streaming availability, prices, catalogues, ratings and provider information come from third parties and can change without notice. Check the provider before subscribing, renting, buying or relying on availability for a particular title.
Provider links take you to services we do not control. Their terms, privacy practices, accessibility and content rules apply when you use them.
MatchWatch is not affiliated with or endorsed by the streaming providers, studios or titles shown unless we say otherwise.
MatchWatch and third-party material
MatchWatch, its software, branding, page designs and original copy are owned by Foundry Studio Limited or used with permission. These terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and revocable right to use the service. They do not transfer ownership.
Movie and TV artwork, names, logos and related metadata belong to their respective owners. They are shown for identification and discovery. You must not treat MatchWatch as granting rights to reuse third-party material.
If you send feedback or suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve MatchWatch without payment or an obligation to adopt them. You keep ownership of material you already owned.
The service may change
We work to keep MatchWatch available and accurate, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Features may be added, changed, paused or removed as the service develops. We will take reasonable care when a change materially affects your account or saved information.
You need a compatible device, internet connection and any relevant streaming subscriptions. You are responsible for your device, connection and provider charges.
Account and data deletion
You can stop using MatchWatch at any time. To request account deletion, use the Delete Account page. We verify the request through the email address on the account before it enters the manual processing queue.
Deletion and retention are handled as described in our Privacy Policy. Some minimal records may be retained where reasonably required for security, legal compliance, dispute handling or to demonstrate that a verified request was completed.
Consumer rights and liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer rights that apply where you live.
To the extent permitted by law, MatchWatch is provided as available. We are not responsible for third-party streaming services, changes to their catalogues, or losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.
Where liability can lawfully be limited, Foundry Studio Limited is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, loss of opportunity, or loss caused by relying on third-party availability data. This does not limit liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, personal injury caused by negligence, or another matter that law does not allow us to limit.
New Zealand law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. You and Foundry Studio Limited submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
This does not take away mandatory consumer or privacy protections, or a right to bring a claim in another court, where the law in your country does not allow that right to be waived.
Updates to these terms
We may update these terms when MatchWatch changes or when legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and take reasonable steps to tell you about material changes. Continuing to use MatchWatch after new terms take effect means the updated terms apply.
Questions about these terms can be sent through our contact page or to hello@matchwatch.tv.
