The results came through on Tuesday arvo, somewhere between knock-off time and working out what was for dinner, which is how Australia finds out about every American awards show. This post has the Emmy winners 2026, where to stream each one in Australia tonight, and which of them you two will actually agree on. Six of the night's biggest wins are on services plenty of Australian houses already pay for.
What won at the 2026 Emmys
The 78th Primetime Emmys ran on Monday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles with Mariska Hargitay hosting, which put them on Tuesday here. Widow's Bay took 14 of them, six on the telecast and eight across the two Creative Arts nights, the most any show has won in a single year; the old record was 13, set last year by The Studio. Matthew Rhys won two lead acting Emmys in the one night, one for Widow's Bay and one for The Beast in Me. The Pitt won Drama Series for the second year running. - Drama Series: The Pitt, two years in a row. On HBO Max.
- Comedy Series: Widow's Bay, with Stephen Root and Kate O'Flynn taking the supporting comedy awards. On Apple TV.

- Lead Actress, Comedy: Jean Smart for Hacks, her fifth for the role. On Stan.

- Lead Actress, Limited and Television Movie: Sally Field, both of them for Remarkably Bright Creatures. On Netflix.

Where to stream the Emmy winners in Australia
One rule for the six below. It has to be included in a subscription you can hold in Australia, or free with ads. No renting, no buying a season off a store page, because that is not streaming, that is shopping. Every title was checked against its Australian listing on 17 September. Widow's Bay
Fourteen Emmys, the most any show has taken in a year, and it only turned up in April. Matthew Rhys plays a New England island mayor talking up a tourism revival that wakes the local legends. Ten episodes, 38 minutes each, on Apple TV. Comedy in the loosest sense.
The Pitt
Drama Series two years running, and it led the field with 25 nominations. One shift in a Pittsburgh emergency department, told close to real time, Noah Wyle running the floor. Two seasons, 30 episodes, 48 minutes a go. On HBO Max. Not the one to put on while you eat.
DTF St. Louis
Seven Emmys for a seven-episode miniseries about three middle-aged people in a suburban Missouri love triangle, one of whom does not make it out. Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Linda Cardellini, written and directed by Steven Conrad. On HBO Max. The title is doing it no favours at all.
Pluribus
Rhea Seehorn won Lead Actress Drama for this one and Vince Gilligan won the writing award for it. She plays an Albuquerque novelist, one of the few immune to a contagion that has folded everyone else into one serene shared mind, and she wants no part of it. Nine episodes on Apple TV.
Hacks
Jean Smart's fifth Lead Actress Comedy win for this role, for the fifth and final season. A Las Vegas headliner and the young writer forced on her grind each other down into something like a partnership. Five seasons, 47 episodes, on Stan. Short episodes, so nobody has to commit to much.
The Beast in Me
Honourable mention
Matthew Rhys's other win on the night, Lead Actor in a Limited Series, which is why it is down here rather than up in the five. He is the wealthy neighbour a grieving writer, Claire Danes, decides is a murderer. Eight episodes on Netflix. Nobody in it is having a nice time.
What each one is, and which of you it is for
Widow's Bay is Katie Dippold's show, and Matthew Rhys plays Tom Loftis, the mayor of a New England island who talks up a tourism revival and wakes the local legends he was told to leave alone. Kate O'Flynn and Stephen Root won the supporting comedy awards for it. Ten episodes at 38 minutes, on Apple TV here. It is the rare one where the laugh half and the mystery half of the couch both get paid.
The Pitt is R. Scott Gemmill's emergency-department drama, with Noah Wyle as Dr Robby working one shift in a Pittsburgh trauma centre in something close to real time. It won Drama Series two years straight and Wyle won Lead Actor again. Two seasons, 30 episodes, 48 minutes each. It is on HBO Max here. It is the one somebody in your house has been dodging all year because it looks like hard work. It is. It is also the best drama here.
DTF St. Louis is Steven Conrad's seven-parter about three middle-aged people in a suburban Missouri love triangle, one of whom does not survive it. Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Linda Cardellini front it; Harbour and Cardellini won the supporting Limited awards and Conrad won directing and writing. Seven Emmys all up, 51 minutes an episode, on HBO Max. Get past the title, which nobody is going to say out loud in the lounge room, and it is the most finished thing here.
Pluribus is Vince Gilligan's, and Rhea Seehorn plays Carol Sturka, an Albuquerque novelist, one of a handful immune to a contagion that has folded everyone else into one calm shared mind. She would rather be left out of it. Seehorn won Lead Actress Drama and Gilligan won writing. Nine episodes, 50 minutes each, on Apple TV. This is for the half of the couch that likes being unsettled on a school night.
Hacks is Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky's, with Jean Smart as Las Vegas headliner Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as the young writer forced on her. Season five was the last one and it won Smart her fifth Lead Actress Comedy for the role. Five seasons, 47 episodes at about 36 minutes, all of it on Stan. Easiest sell in the six, because a 36-minute episode is not a commitment and you can bail after one.
The Beast in Me is the honourable mention, because it is the second half of Matthew Rhys's night rather than a series winner. Gabe Rotter made it. Claire Danes is the grieving writer who becomes fixated on the wealthy neighbour she suspects of murder, and Rhys is the neighbour, happy to play along. Eight episodes at 49 minutes, on Netflix. Put it on when you both want something nasty that finishes inside a week.
The rest of the winners, briefly
Sally Field won Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Remarkably Bright Creatures, which also won Television Movie. It is a movie, not a series: Olivia Newman directed, and Field is a widow working nights at a small aquarium who befriends a giant octopus. On Netflix. Tom Pelphrey won the supporting drama award for Task, Brad Ingelsby's Philadelphia crime series with Mark Ruffalo, on HBO Max. Allison Janney won the other one for The Diplomat, three seasons streaming on Netflix. Saul Metzstein won directing for Slow Horses, six seasons on Apple TV; Prime Video has season one only, which is a taster, not a plan.
Two local notes. The Traitors won Reality Competition, and while Paramount+ has all four seasons, it is also free with ads on 10, so that one costs you nothing. And Hacks lives on Stan, which is putting its prices up this month. Worth knowing before you add a service for one show and forget about it until the NRL grand final on 4 October.
Pick one without the argument
Here is the actual problem. A house with Apple TV, HBO Max, Netflix and Stan can watch all six of these tonight and will still end up watching none of them, because saying a title out loud makes it yours, and knocking it back reads as knocking you back. Then MAFS goes on and nobody owns up to putting it there. If that is your lounge room, shows for couples who disagree is the long version of the same argument, and the couples page is what MatchWatch does about it: you each say yes or no privately, and whatever overlaps is tonight.
That is the whole point of ticking your services first. If the house does not have HBO Max, The Pitt and DTF St. Louis never come up at all, and nobody spends the evening being sold a fifth subscription. It takes a couple of minutes, which is still less than the argument.
