How-to guide Β· Australia

Everything you need to sort movie night.

The complete guide to using MatchWatch in Australia. Eight short sections, from creating your account to letting Pick for me settle the final debate.

The whole thing, in three steps

Three steps to movie night, without the committee meeting.

01

Create your account and group

Create your account or sign in, then make a group or join one with an invite link or code. A group can include up to six people.

02

Set your services and swipe

Choose the Australian services you use, then everyone swipes privately on their own phone. Right for yes, left for not tonight.

03

Choose from your matches

When enough people in the group agree on a title, it appears in Matched. Check where it is available, or use Pick for me if the shortlist starts another debate.

Getting started

Open MatchWatch

Go to app.matchwatch.tv in your browser. You can use a phone or computer, and there is no native app download required.

Create or sign in to your account

Use email, Google or Apple to get into your account. If you sign up by email, confirm the address before finishing your setup.

Set up your Australian profile

Choose Australia, your streaming services, a few genres and your age bracket. Those choices give the deck the right regional and classification context.

Setting up your group

Create a group

Create a group during setup or from the Group card in your profile. Give it a name your housemates will recognise.

Send the invite

Email the invite link from MatchWatch or copy the group's invite code. There is room for up to six people, including you.

Join from your own account

Each person creates an account or signs in before joining through the invite link or code. Once they appear in the group, they can swipe from their own phone.

Choosing your services

Choose them during setup

The Australian list is Netflix, Stan, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV, HBO Max, Binge, Paramount+, Foxtel Now, BritBox, 9Now, 7plus, ABC iview, SBS On Demand and 10. Select only the services you actually use.

Edit them from your profile

Open your profile, find Streaming Services and tap Edit. Add a service when you subscribe, or remove one when another price rise finally wins.

Keep the deck useful

MatchWatch uses your selected services when building the deck and showing availability. A tidy service list means fewer matches followed by a hunt for somewhere to watch them.

Swiping and matching

Swipe on Discover

Drag the card right for something you would watch, or left when it is not for tonight. Tap the star when a title is a stronger yes.

Vote without the sales pitch

Everyone swipes privately. Your housemates do not see a list of your choices, so nobody has to defend a reality-TV pick before it has even matched.

Open the Matched view

A title appears in Matched when enough people in the group agree. Open it for the details and current streaming options.

Moods and filters

Open Mood from Discover

Tap Mood in the bottom navigation. Pick Trending, Date Night, Funny, Scary, Family, Documentary, TV or another option that fits the room.

Let the deck change direction

Choosing a mood refreshes the deck around that filter. Switch it whenever the group moves from serious drama to something that requires less emotional paperwork.

Treat Coming Soon dates as a guide

Coming Soon helps you spot future titles, but release timing can change by title, service and location. Check the local listing before planning the whole night around one date.

Using your watchlist

Find the titles you liked

Movies and shows you swipe right on appear under My Swipes in the Watchlist. They stay useful even when the group has not matched on them.

Keep group matches separate

Matched has the titles your group agreed on. Use the To Watch, Watching and Watched filters to keep the shortlist from becoming another streaming homepage.

Reconsider a pass

Titles you swiped left on appear under Passed. Open one and add it back to your watchlist if last week's hard no has become tonight's maybe.

Adding another region

Open Regions in your profile

Your active countries sit in the Regions card. Tap Edit when your household also needs another MatchWatch region.

Choose the countries you need

Add New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States alongside Australia, then save. The deck can draw from the regions on your profile.

Review your services afterwards

Extra regions bring extra service options. Check Streaming Services again and select only the ones your household can actually open.

Tips for a faster decision

Keep your services honest

Remove subscriptions you cancelled and add the free services you use. That keeps the deck closer to what is genuinely available tonight.

Check the local calendar and classification

School holidays and some public holidays vary by state or territory, so check your local dates before planning a family movie night. MatchWatch uses your age setting, but M is advisory and MA 15+ is restricted, so check the classification and consumer advice too.

Let Pick for me finish the job

Once you have a title in Matched, open the Watchlist and tap Can't decide? Pick for me. MatchWatch draws from the eligible shortlist, and you can ask it to pick again.

Free to use

No credit card, no paid tier and no trial waiting to turn into a bill.

Private swipes

Everyone votes on their own phone. The group sees the match, not a list of your individual choices.

Built for Australian services

Choose from the Australian services MatchWatch supports, including both subscription and free options.

Works in your browser

Use MatchWatch on a phone or computer. Add it to your home screen if you want quicker access.

Finally, something that stops us arguing every single Saturday. Actually impressed.
