The results were in by Tuesday afternoon here, jug on, feet up, which is the one upside of living a day ahead of the red carpet. Here are the Emmy winners 2026 and where to stream them in NZ tonight, one service per title, plus which of them you two will actually agree on. Six cards below, all on apps a household here plausibly has between them. One of them costs nothing. By Thursday you will be back on Shortland Street anyway. That is fine. It is just nice to have options.
What won at the 2026 Emmys
The 78th Primetime Emmys ran on Monday night in Los Angeles with Mariska Hargitay hosting, which put the whole thing into Tuesday afternoon here. Widow's Bay, the Apple TV comedy about an island mayor with a tourism plan, finished the three ceremonies on 14 wins, the most any comedy has taken in a single year. Matthew Rhys won two lead acting awards on the same night, one for Widow's Bay and one for The Beast in Me. The Pitt took Drama Series for the second year running. Nothing here is a rental, because a title you have to buy is not really an answer to what is on tonight. Every card names the app that has it here, not the one that has it in America. Widow's Bay
The night's big winner, and a mystery that is funnier than it sounds. Matthew Rhys plays a New England island mayor whose tourism revival wakes up the local legends everyone told him to leave alone. Ten episodes at under forty minutes each, so it goes down easy on a school night. Apple TV.
The Pitt
Drama Series two years running, and Noah Wyle won Lead Actor again for it. One shift in a Pittsburgh trauma centre, told close to real time, which means no episode ever lets you off. Two seasons and thirty episodes now. Not the pick for whoever in the house said they wanted something light. HBO Max.
DTF St. Louis
Limited Series winner, seven Emmys all up, and only seven episodes to get through. Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Linda Cardellini are a love triangle in suburban Missouri, and one of them does not make it out. Steven Conrad wrote and directed it. Short enough to finish over a long weekend. HBO Max.
Pluribus
Rhea Seehorn won Lead Actress in a Drama for this, and Vince Gilligan won for writing it. She plays an Albuquerque novelist who is immune to a contagion that has folded everyone else into one calm shared mind, and she wants no part of it. Nine episodes. Apple TV, same app as Widow's Bay.
The Traitors
Reality Competition winner, hosted by Alan Cumming, and the only thing on this list that costs you nothing. Celebrities and reality veterans lie to each other in a Scottish castle until somebody wins the money. Four seasons free with ads on ThreeNow, which makes it the easiest yes in the house.
The Beast in Me
Honourable mention
Matthew Rhys's other win, for Lead Actor in a Limited Series, opposite Claire Danes. She is a grieving writer who becomes convinced the wealthy neighbour did it, and he is more than happy to play along. Eight episodes on Netflix. An honourable mention only because the man already has a card.
What each one is, and which of you it is for
Widow's Bay is Katie Dippold's comedy, ten episodes, with Matthew Rhys as Mayor Tom Loftis, Kate O'Flynn as Patricia Moyer and Kevin Carroll as the sheriff. It won Comedy Series, both supporting comedy awards, and finished the week on 14 Emmys, a record for a comedy in a single year. It is the rare one that suits the person who wants a laugh and the person who wants a mystery, at the same time. Apple TV has it here, at NZ$17.99 a month.
The Pitt comes from R. Scott Gemmill, with Noah Wyle and Patrick Ball. It won Drama Series for the second year in a row, off the back of 25 nominations, more than any other series managed. A Pittsburgh emergency department works one shift, close to real time, over capacity the whole way. It is the one somebody in the house has been quietly dodging since last year. HBO Max has it in New Zealand.
DTF St. Louis is Steven Conrad's seven-part limited series, and he won for writing and directing it. Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Linda Cardellini play three middle-aged people tangled up in each other in suburban Missouri, and it does not end well for all of them. Harbour and Cardellini both won supporting awards for it. Seven episodes is a fortnight of after-tea viewing at most. HBO Max.
Pluribus is Vince Gilligan's, and he won Writing in a Drama for it. Rhea Seehorn, who won Lead Actress, plays a novelist in Albuquerque left unchanged after a contagion folds everyone else into one serene shared mind, and she wants nothing to do with it. Nine episodes on Apple TV, so it sits on the same subscription as Widow's Bay and costs the house nothing extra.
The Traitors won Reality Competition, and Alan Cumming hosts it in a Scottish castle, which is most of the appeal. A group of reality names and celebrities plays a deception game, a hidden few murder their way towards the prize fund, and everyone accuses everyone at a round table. This is the one for the person who claims not to watch reality television. Four seasons, free with ads on ThreeNow.
The Beast in Me is Gabe Rotter's limited series, eight episodes, with Claire Danes as a writer who has stopped writing and Matthew Rhys as the neighbour she suspects of murder. Rhys won Lead Actor in a Limited Series for it, on the same night he won for the comedy. Netflix has it, which makes it the card on this list that most houses can start without paying anyone anything new.
The rest of the winners, briefly
Sally Field won Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures, which also took Television Movie. It is a film, Olivia Newman directed it, and Netflix has it. Tom Pelphrey won Supporting Actor in a Drama for Task, with Mark Ruffalo, on HBO Max. Allison Janney won the supporting drama award for The Diplomat, three seasons on Netflix. Saul Metzstein won Directing in a Drama for Slow Horses, six seasons on Apple TV. Prime Video carries season one of that only, which is a taster rather than an answer.
Then there is Hacks. Jean Smart won Lead Actress in a Comedy for the fifth and final season, her fifth win for the part, and in New Zealand that season sits on Hayu as a Prime Video channel and nowhere else. The listing is already flagged as leaving. So it is the one winner we cannot honestly put on a card here, which is a fairly New Zealand outcome: the trophy goes to the show you cannot get.
Pick one without the argument
A house with Netflix, Apple TV and HBO Max going at once can reach every card on this list, and will still spend twenty minutes not choosing. That is not an information problem. Everyone has the information. Shows for couples who disagree goes through the standoff properly, and the couples page is the short version: you each say yes or no on your own phone, and the overlap is what goes on.
So a house without Apple TV never gets handed Widow's Bay, and nobody has to sit through the pitch for it. This week's picks keeps the shorter running list, and the guide covers how the matching works if you want the mechanics. The whole thing takes about as long as an ad break in The Traitors.
